Band Leadership Team Positions

7th Grade representative
Represents the interests of the 7th grade students. How are 7th graders affected, what do 7th graders need, etc.
8th grade representative
Represents the interests of the 8th grade students. How are 8th graders affected, what do 8th graders need, etc.
secretary
The secretary is the organizer, the person that takes notes during meetings called “minutes.”  He or she keeps a record of the minutes and helps us remember what was discussed during our meeting.

Librarian
Librarians are in charge of helping to make sure music is copied and passed out. When a student needs a copy of a piece of music they assist them. They are trained on the copier and the music storage system in the music library.
CrEW CAptain
Crew captains are the muscles of the operation.  They are the bosses of whatever we need physically moved.  “Set-up” crew, or “Loading” crew, they prep for events, parties, trips, etc. (They might get called out of class sometimes when we need help.)
Percussion captain
Percussion captains are in charge of all  things percussion.  They organize the equipment, store the equipment, make travel lists of what we need when we go somewhere, (Football Games, Contests, etc., etc.) They also alert us when things break and need repair.
Woodwind and brass captains
Most likely 8th grade students interested in being a leader for younger students.  They help younger students learn music, model playing in class for articulation, daily drill,  and music etc for younger students to match.  They help directors w/ attendance each day.  They remind section about pencils, supplies, reeds, mutes, sectional times, performances, etc. 
Example:  “Who’s absent today, Brass Captain? W.Wind Captain?”
OR  “Brass & W.Wind captains play m. 1 -8 with correct style & articulation”  (as a group you model it for the class)



SMILE SQUAD
The smile squad is in charge of people relations. Setting up & handing out programs at concerts, helping organize our school & community outreach (Making signs for Orch/Choir/Theater for their competitions, Help w/“Caroling thru the Classrooms” in December, Ideas for “Spooktacular Halloween Concert”, Elementary Tour ideas, Band member birthdays, help at beginner screening, welcoming new band members, etc.
